Medical Negligence Solicitors GP Cases

Sometimes your GP can commit medical negligence if he doesn't refer you to a specialist or didn't deal with your case with the appropriate urgency.

If your GP misdiagnosed your condition or failed to diagnose a serious illness, you might be able to make a claim for medical negligence by consulting a medical negligence solicitor. This is especially so, if the mistake could have lead to a worsening of existing conditions leaving disabilities for life, or even cause death. The process in this case is fairly straightforward and can be settled in a relative short time.

Another area for concern is a system error. GPs are normally the bridge between the hospital and the patient and if they fail to communicate well with both sides, then the patient can suffer serious damages. This would be the case if, for example, your GP fails to recall you for tests or refer you to a specialist.

A third area where medical negligence can occur is when a GP makes an error at prescribing drugs and/or surgery.

If any of these cases applies to you, then the next step is looking for a good medical negligence solicitor to help with the claiming process. They will need to show that your GP didn't give you proper attention and treatment. You'll also need to show that you suffered an injury or loss as a result of this.

You'll be discussing the personal aspect of your case with your medical negligence lawyer in detail and they will ask you for your medical records in order to have all the information necessary to proceed with a claim. The next step will be the assessment of the case from an independent GP who will confirm whether your case is truly one of medical negligence. A senior independent medical consultant will also tell how your case could have been improved if you had received proper care.

If you think you deserve compensation, then talk to a specialist medical negligence solicitor with plenty of experience in this area. Should you want to pursue the case yourself, you could begin by the traditional method of complaining straight to your GP. You will probably have a few meetings with the GP and his colleagues who will give you a formal letter in reply to your complaint. If you are not happy with this response, then you can appeal to the Health Commission.
